The Holocaust ended only 68 years ago which is still within living memory of some, and, which can be considered recent on the time scale of history. However those that survived and the other eyewitnesses to the horror such as the soldiers who liberated the camps, are now at an age where they are rapidly diminishing in number.*
Two thirds of all European Jews were killed in the Holocaust including 90% of Polish Jews, 95% of Belarusia Jews and French assimilated Jewish children who were marked with a yellow Star of David and sent to the death camps by French officials (Germany was not alone in its active involvement in the Holocaust).
The Nazi’s war against the Jews was global. The only thing that prevented them from carrying out their objective with the efficiency demonstrated in Europe and Russia to make Judaism an extinct religion and Jews and extinct race (in Nazi terms) by killing all Jews globally was their defeat in WWII.
Hitler had ordered the collection of 200,000 Jewish artifacts, which were photographed and catalogued to be displayed at the end of the war as a trophy case of archaeological remains. They were to be displayed in Prague in what was to be called "The Museum of an Extinct Race".
That strong anti Semitism and a large pro Nazi movement and Fifth column existed in the US before and during WWII is well documented.
Equally well documented, are the alliances between Islam in the 1930's and 1940's and the Nazi’s against the Jews in North Africa and the Middle East. Haj Mohammed Effendi Amin el-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, traveled to and met with Adolph Hitler, petitioning him several times about addressing the Jewish issue in the Mideast on the same basis as the Nazi regime was pursuing. In addition to the 6 million European and Russian Jews who were primarily targeted, an estimated 6 million others who were mostly Christian were murdered by the Nazi’s on the same basis.
These included Priests, Pastors, Nuns , academics, students and other civilians, Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, Gays, Lesbians, Blacks living in Germany (there were ~24,000 when Hitler came to power)**, captured US soldiers who were Jewish, looked Jewish, were Black or Mexican and even those who were clearly caucasian Christians (who were sent to concentration camps***,****) and allied soldiers.

In addition, there were the innocent handicapped or mentally ill which Nazi progressive eugenics theory considered genetically flawed, non- contributing drains on society and therefore unfit to live, who were put to death at first by medical euthanasia and later in concentration camps with other victims of the Holocaust.**
History and in particular the Holocaust teaches us that the line can be razor thin between a humane and morally restrained veneer of civilization, and, the inhumane and immoral acts resulting from unfettered new or previously suppressed beliefs and emotions of hatred and jealosy encouraged by governments, other organizations, geopolitical and economic events.
The history, victims and lessons of the Holocaust will therefore only stay alive if documented, seen, constantly remembered and passed on to the next generation, despite various forces that try to stop this from occurring including those that deny the Holocaust ever occurred and that death camps like Treblinka were just "transit camps" despite overwhelming existing and hard evidence that continues to be found as late as 2012. **
Yom HaShoah (יום השואה) which in English is Holocaust Remembrance Day, or Holocaust Day, was first established in 1953 as Israel's national memorial day to commemorate the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. The recognition that millions of others were also subjected to, perished in and suffered during the Holocaust have led to Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorations being widely held on an interfaith basis in many countries.
Holocaust Remembrance cannot just be for one day if the memory of the event and its victims are to stay alive and the Holocaust deniers are to be defeated.... so that this terrible episode of inhumanity and immorality never again repeats itself for persons of any race, religion, political group, sexual orientation or medical condition.
It is for this reason that this web page will remain a permanent part of our website, with the hope it helps in its own small way to educate whoever looks at it about the Holocaust.

THE HORROR

That the Holocaust occurred cannot be denied. That men who were fathers and women who were mothers themselves could kill innocent civilians so easily including mothers holding their children , or, perform terrible medical experiments on innocent children (pictures immediately below from Auschwitz) defies human nature.
Dr. Mengele (pictured to left above) at Auschwitz had a fascination with twins and dwarfs. He carried out hideous and gruesome experiments for example on the seven brothers and sisters of the Ovitz family (pictured to right). Dr. Mengele escaped to S. America after the war and lived out his natural life there under various names and the protection of sympathizers.
Horrific new transcripts just revealed in 2012 from British Intelligence of German POW's reveal ordinary soldiers and airmen bragging to each other about their role in the Hiler's atrocities.
POW Major General Walter Bruns is heard recalling a “typical Jewish action” he witnessed in Russia. BRUNS: “The trenches were 24 metres long and roughly three metres wide. They had to lie like sardines in a tin, heads towards the middle.
Above, six machine gunners ¬delivered the neck-shots. “When I arrived, the trenches were pretty full already and the living had to lie on top before they got the neck-shot. They were all arranged beautifully so not too much space was wasted. They had already been robbed before they got here.
On this Sunday I saw a half-kilometre-long queue shuffling forward step by step, the line-up for death. As they got nearer, they saw what awaited them. Around about here they had to give up their suitcases and their sacks of ¬valuables. A little further on, they had to strip, and they could only keep on a shirt or a slip. They were mostly women and ¬children, not much older than two.”
“The extermination of the Jews was known in the world of the soldier far more than recent investigations of the topic have suggested.” Other times, ordinary German soldiers boasted of contacting men they knew in SS units to ask when executions at this or that village were scheduled. Then they would take picnics and booze, and go along to watch for a grand day out. [10]
As documented in pictures and movies the SS, Einsatzgruppen, Wehrmacht, their puppet government Eastern European allies and even participating civilians themselves took...the Holocaust is a stark reminder of what the human race is capable of...extreme evil... as well as extreme good.
 
The Nazi's kept meticulous records of their planning for the Holocaust which started at the Wannsee conference*****, who they rounded up, transported and killed.
The volume of such captured documents in addition to pictures and film totally refutes the attempts by Holocaust deniers to lie about the existance of these actions and most of all....destroy the memory of all the innocent people who were murdered for just being Jews...including doctors, artists, musicians, farmers, professors, tradespersons, fathers, mothers and 1.3 million Jewish children, and, the millions of others who were victims for no other reason except who they were as human beings, or, what they believed in.
JEWS IN GERMANY-THE BEGINNING
In 1933, about 600,000 Jews lived in Germany, less than one percent of the total population. More than 100,000 German Jews had served in the German army during World War I, and many were decorated for bravery. Jews held important positions in government and taught in Germany's renowned universities. Of the 38 Nobel Prizes won by German writers and scientists between 1905 and 1936, 14 went to Jews.
Despite this, the combination of the Jews being a small minority and long held European and in particular German anti Semitic prejudices made the Jews a useful political scapegoat for Hitler as the cause of Germany’s defeat in World War I and its economic catastrophe which culminated in the hyperinflation during the Weimar Republic. In addition, as illustrated in Mein Kampf, the book in which Hitler spelled out his beliefs and intended actions before gaining power, he had a personal visceral hatred of the Jews.
The Holocaust was initiated and largely managed and perpetrated by The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei abbreviated NSDAP), commonly known in English and history as the Nazi Party.
Actions and Laws enacted depriving Jews of their rights as German citizens by the Nazi Government under Hitler progressed rapidly.
On April 1, 1933, a week after Hitler became dictator of Germany, he ordered a boycott of Jewish shops, banks, offices, department stores and professionals.
SA Paramilitary (also known as the Brown Shirts) enforced the boycott by standing guard in front of Jewish owned shops on which they placed signs, and, not allowing any shoppers to enter.
The boycott was followed by a rapid series of laws which robbed the Jews of many rights. 
On April 7, "The Law of the Restoration of the Civil Service" was introduced which made 'Aryanism' a necessary requirement in order to hold a civil service position. All Jews holding such positions were dismissed or forced into retirement.
On April 22, Jews were prohibited from serving as patent lawyers and from serving as doctors in state-run insurance institutions.
On April 25, a law against the overcrowding of German schools placed severe limits on the number of young Jews allowed to enroll in public schools.
On May 10, burning of books under the Nazi regime was launched. The Nazi government purged cultural organizations of Jewish and other officials alleged to be politically suspect or who performed or created art works which Nazi ideologues labeled “degenerate.”
On June 2, a law prohibited Jewish dentists and dental technicians from working with state-run insurance institutions.
On May 6, the Civil Service law was amended to close loopholes in order to keep out honorary university professors, lecturers and notaries.
On September 28, all non-Aryans and their spouses were prohibited from government employment.
On September 29, Jews were banned from all cultural and entertainment activities including literature, art, film and theater.
In early October 1933, Jews were prohibited from being journalists and all newspapers were placed under Nazi control.
On the evening of 15 September 1935, two measures were announced to the Reichstag at the annual Party Rally in Nuremberg, becoming known as the Nuremberg Laws.
The first law, The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour prohibited marriages and extramarital intercourse between "Jews" (the name was now officially used in place of "non-Aryans") and "Germans" and also the employment of "German" females under forty-five in Jewish households.
The second law, The Reich Citizenship Law, declared those not of German blood to be Staatsangehörige (state subjects) while those classified as "Aryans" were Reichsbürger (citizens of the Reich). Between November 1935 to July 1943, 13 implementation ordinances were issued dealing with the enforcement of Reich Citizenship Law that progressively marginalized the Jewish community in Germany.
 Kristallnacht (night of broken glass) November 9, 1938 was a series of coordinated attacks against Jews throughout Nazi Germany and parts of Austria on 9–10 November 1938.
It was carried out by the SA paramilitary (Brown Shirts)) against Jewish civilians. German authorities looked on without intervening.

The Kristallnact attacks left the streets covered with broken glass (hence the name Kristallnacht) from the windows of Jewish-owned stores, buildings, and synagogues.
Within 48 hours, synagogues were vandalized and burned, 7,500 Jewish businesses were damaged or destroyed, 96 Jews were killed, and nearly 30,000 Jewish men were arrested and sent to concentration camps.
The Nazi Weapons Law stated that no Jew could be involved in any business involving firearms. On November 11 1938, one day after the SS were unleashed against the Jews, new regulations under the Nazi Weapons Law barred Jews from owning any weapons.
Anti Semitism was driven through propaganda via words and pictures plus exclusionary signs that made anti Semitism the accepted norm.

"They poison our life.” “Der Giftpilz” is the title of an anti-Semitic children’s book put out by the notorious anti Semite and racial purist Julius Streicher which was translated for Nazi use in conquered countries.

The Nazi’s pursued a campaign of euthanasia (putting to death via injections and other methods) those considered a financial burden on society such as persons who were handicapped or mentally ill. These persons were termed "uselss eaters" in Nazi propaganda. Propaganda to “educate” and create an acceptance of this is illustrated by this poster from the 1930’s. It promotes the Nazi monthly Neues Volk (New People}, the organ of the party’s racial office. The text reads: “This genetically ill person will cost our people’s community 60,000 marks over his lifetime. Citizens, that is your money. Read Neues Volk, the monthly of the racial policy office of the NSDAP.”

THE FINAL SOLUTION
January 20, 1942, 15 high-ranking Nazi Party and German government officials gathered in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee to discuss and coordinate the implementation of what they called the "Final Solution of the Jewish Question." This meeting laid out plans for the final solution to the Jewish Question—the deportation and extermination of all Jews in German-occupied territory.
The meeting was called by Reinhard Heydrich, a General in the SS and Chief of the Reich Main Security Office including the Gestapo. Heydrich has been called by historians the darkest figure in the entire Nazi heirarchy.
Incredibly, in 1940 Heydrich was also appointed and served as President of Interpol, the international police organization.
The "Final Solution" was the code name for the systematic, deliberate, physical annihilation of the European Jews. At some still undetermined time in 1941, Hitler authorized this European-wide scheme for mass murder. Heydrich convened the Wannsee Conference to inform and secure support from government ministries and other interested agencies relevant to the implementation of the “Final Solution”
By the time of the Wannsee Conference, the Einsatzgruppen operating behind the army front lines, had murdered more than half a million people. Mass shootings were not suitable for European Jewry outside the war zone and were also demoralizing for the Nazi troops. This had prompted a search for a more impersonal way of killing large numbers of people. By January 1942, the death camps in Belzec and Chelmno, with their gassing facilities, were already under construction.
At the time of the Wannsee Conference, most participants were already aware that the National Socialist regime had engaged in mass murder of Jews and other civilians in the German-occupied areas of the Soviet Union and in Serbia. Some had learned of the actions of the Einsatzgruppen and other police and military units, which were already slaughtering tens of thousands of Jews in the German-occupied Soviet Union. Others were aware that units of the German Army and the SS and police were killing Jews in Serbia. None of the officials present at the meeting objected to the Final Solution policy that Heydrich announced.
Heydrich indicated that approximately 11,000,000 Jews in Europe would fall under the provisions of the "Final Solution." In this figure, he included not only Jews residing in Axis-controlled Europe, but also the Jewish populations of the United Kingdom, and the neutral nations (Switzerland, Ireland, Sweden, Spain, Portugal, and European Turkey).
Meticulous minutes of the meeting were taken at the meeting and survived the war as evidence that the meeting occurred.
THE HOLOCAUST WAS NOT JUST CARRIED OUT BY NAZI'S
Those who were members of the Nazi party were aided and abetted by regular soldiers, police, government officials, ordinary civilians, financial institutions and large companies of many countries including from the U.S. who contributed directly and indirectly to the scale of the Holocaust. [6]
The period of the Nazis was not just a blip in German history; the Holocaust was a Europe-wide crime. [1b].
Secret Nazi Tapes Reveal How Ordinary German Soldiers Were Responsible For War Crimes And Not Just SS' with statements like “ I Liked To Shoot Everything - Women, Kids... It Was Kind Of Sport'” [10].
THE HOLOCAUST WAS AIDED DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY BY GOVERNMENTS OF OTHER NATIONS....INCLUDING THE U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT WHICH HAD MANY LEADING FIGURES AND OFFICE HOLDERS WHO WERE ANTI SEMITIC
As more facts are revealed with time the attitudes and actions of leaders and their government appointees of other nations made the responsibility for the Holocaust global.
Included were major elements in the U.S. State Department and other sectors of the Roosevelt administration at the time, who actively blocked the immigration of Jews trying to escape what was happening in Europe and also tried to prevent and stop people of good will from helping Jews escape from Europe. One of the most notorious anti Semites in the US State Department was Breckinridge Long (picture to left).
He was appointed Ambassador ot Italy by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) and he was a great admirer of Mussolini.
Long was in charge of the Visa Division at the US State Department and the U.S. State Department's man in charge of helping Europe's Jews during the pre war and actual war period.
During this time, he thwarted the entry into the United States of as many Jews as possible, as well as East European refugees.
He deliberately created bureaucratic obstacles for refugees seeking visas, and found ways to block many humanitarian efforts.
90% of the immigration quotas from countries controlled by Germany and Italy were therefore never filled.
Had they been, it's estimated that the lives of 200,000 (two hundred thousand) people could have been saved.
Only in 1944 when the War Refugee Board was established was his power diminished. But it was too late to save Jews from the worse period of the Holocaust 1943 and 1944 when most of the killing occurred.
Yet, Breckinridge Long was never held accountable for his actions, despite the fact that he was responsible for the deaths of more Jews than many who were considered to be Nazi war criminals who were prosecuted after the war for the deaths they directly or indirectly caused or carried out. In fact, when he died in 1958 he was buried with honors at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington DC.
 President Franklin Roosevelt's refused to admit 937 mostly German Jewish refugees aboard the ship, St. Louis, because it was politically impossible given the public anti Semitism that existed in the U.S. and the anti Semitism of powerful forces in the U.S. State Department. The movie "Ship of Fools" was based on the voyage of the St. Louis. Its passengers were forced to return to Germany after being denied entry by the U.S. and by Cuba. Some 250 of the German Jewish refugees would later be killed in the Holocaust.

Anti Semitism was endemic in the U.S. during the 1930's and 1940's. Stores such as Woolworth's in Brooklyn New York had signs in their windows "Help Wanted, No Jews Need Apply".
In the 1930’s, the Mayfair Hotel in Miami Beach had a sign posted “No Dogs, No Jews, No Colored”.
Bal Harbor Florida in the early 1950’s still had signs that said "No Jews Dogs or Colored" posted in its public buildings as well as at each major cross road.
Such was the level of overt let alone discrete anti Semitism and other prejudices in the US before and even just after the war and the Holocaust.
Shockingly, A 1944 survey found that 24.2% of Americans considered Jews “most dangerous” compared to 8% for Germans and 16% for Japanese” American soldiers were fighting Germany and Japan, but Americans viewed Jews “most dangerous”. Sixty-one percent of Americans polled responded that “American Jews should [NOT] be treated like all other people. Immediately following Krystallnacht “10% even believed Jews should be deported.” Regarding the Jews, at least, popular sentiment in Germany and the United States was not that far apart. THE HOLOCAUST WAS AIDED DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY BY MAJOR GLOBAL COMPANIES
Major companies, some still in business and known globally, were involved in the concentration camps including Adler SA, AEG, AFA-Werke, Astra, Auto-Union, Bayer, BMW, Daimler Benz, Dornier, Ford, Heinkel, IG Farben, Junker, Krupp, Messerschmitt, Metall Union, AGA Photo, Shell, Siemens, Solvay, Telefunken and Volkswagen.
Three books among many available detail the roles of major US companies such as Ford, General Motors, IBM, the Rockefeller Foundation and others in supporting the Nazi war machine that facilitated the Holocaust and/or facilitated the Holocaust directly. These books, described in more detail below with URL’s where they can be purchased include “Trading with the Enemy: the Nazi-American Money Plot 1933-1949”, "Nazi Nexus", and “IBM and the Holocaust”. IBM for example was responsible for organizing the 1933 German census using 60 column punch cards which identified the Jews in Nazi Germany, and, such systems were used later in the Final Solution.
THE POWERFUL NAZI FIFTH COLUMN IN THE U.S.
For those too young to remember how close the U.S. itself came to the cliff's edge of falling into the Nazi abyss from within, one needs to remember that during the 1930’s there was an active Fifth Column of Nazi sympathizer's in the U.S.
The American German Bund, a pro Nazi organization, sponsored 24 indoctrination oriented summer camps for children and like minded adults in the U.S.. They were emboldened enough and supported by a sufficient number of Americans to engage in public marches, including a march down New York City streets with American and Nazi flags. In February 1939 the German American Bund held a rally at Madison Square Garden in NYC attended by 20,000 Americans giving the Nazi salute.

THERE WERE THOSE THAT TRIED TO HELPVARIAN MACKEY FRYE, A JOURNALIST AND THE AMERICAN SCHINDLER
There were brave individuals who at great risk to their own lives and careers tried to help like journalist Varian Frye (pictured to right on a war time publication about his saving refugees and his lectures, and, below to right in Marsaille France in 1941).
Varian Fry, a 32 year old Harvard-educated classicist and editor from New York City, helped save thousands of endangered refugees who were caught in the Vichy French zone escape from Nazi terror during World War II.
Varian Frye saved over 2,000 Jews including such distinguished artists and intellectuals as Marc Chagall, Andre Gide, Hannah Arendt, Andre Breton, Max Ernst, Franz Werfel, Lion Feuchtwanger, and Heinrich Mann.
When Varian Frye was asked as to his motives, he responded that when he had visited Berlin in 1935, he saw SA men assaulting Jews in the city's streets, and he felt he could no longer remain indifferent. When he returned to US he decided to act:
''I remembered what I had seen in Germany. I knew what would happen to the refugees if the Gestapo got hold of them ... It was my duty to help them ... Friends warned me of the danger. They said I was a fool to go. I, too, could be walking into the trap. I might never come back alive.“
Varian Frye was expelled from France in 1941 after his covert activities angered officials of both the U.S. State Department and Vichy France.
In 1991, 50 years after his courageous actions in France saved thousands of innocent lives and 24 years after his death, Fry received his first official recognition from a United States agency, the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.
In 1996, Varian Mackey Fry was named as "Righteous Among the Nations" by Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Heros and Martyrs Remembrance Authority in Jerusalem -- the first American recipient of Israel's highest honor for rescuers during the Holocaust, an honor also received by Oskar Schindler and Raoul Wallenberg.

DENMARK: AN ENTIRE COUNTRY TRIES TO RESCUE ITS JEWS FROM GERMANY AND THE HOLOCAUST
In a truly remarkable chapter during the height of the Holocaust, the entire country of Denmark made a largely successful effort to protect its Jewish population by helping them escape and resisting Nazi efforts to separate and ship them to concentration camps.
Germany occupied Denmark in 1940 but did not decide to deport its 8,000 Jews until August 1943. In September 1943 a German diplomat secretly informed the Danish resistance that the Nazis were planning to deport the Danish Jews.
The Danes immediately organized a nationwide effort to smuggle the Jews to neutral Sweden by boat across the Kattegat Strait, a narrow body of water separating the two countries.
Most of the Danish Jews lived in Copenhagen and left. They found hiding places in homes, hospitals, and churches.
Then, 7,220 Jews and about 700 non Jewish relatives were taken by brave Danish fisherman and other boat owners at great personal risk to Sweden. In the first few days of October 1943 when the Germans began a nationwide action to round up all Danish Jews for deportation to the concentration camps most had already been saved. The Danish rescue effort was unique because it was nationwide. HOLOCAUST IMPLEMENTATION: WORDS BECOME DEEDS
The table below, from Nazi records, are the statistics for the extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland., just one of the extermination camps specifically built for mass murder.
Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest extermination camp.
From March 1942 until early 1943, it is estimated that about 600,000 Jews were murdered in the Belzec extermination camp.
Treblinka opened on July, 1942, with the beginning of the evacuation of the Warsaw ghetto and some 245,000 Warsaw Jews and 112,000 Jews from other places in the Warsaw district were murdered in Treblinka by September 21. 337,000 Jews from the Radom district, 35,000 from the Lublin district and 107,000 from the Bialystok district also met their death in Treblinka with 738,000 Jews who had been residents of the General Government controlled area. From outside Poland many thousands of Jews were transported to and killed in Treblinka including 7,000 from Slovakia, 8,000 from the Theresienstadt concentration camp, 4,000 Jews from Greece, and 7,000 Jews from the Macedonia portion of Bulgaria. In addition to the Jews, some 2,000 gypsies were killed in Treblinka.
The killing operations in Majdanek started April 1942 and ended July 1944 with 360,000 estimated deaths including Jews, Soviet POWs and Poles.
Sobibor, the second extermination camp to open, murdered an estimated 250,000 people the majority being Jews.
Chelmno, also known as Kulmhof a small town roughly 50 miles from the city of Lodz, Poland, was where the first mass killings of Jews by gas took place as part of the 'Final Solution'.
Jasenovac less well known then the other death camps, was Croatia’s largest death camp. It was a network of several sub-camps, established in August 1941. It was a death camp since the plan was to exterminate all its inmates. While the actual number is unknown, it is estimated that upwards of 100,000 men, women and children who were Jews, Serbs, Gypsies, Croat partisans and citizens were killed in the most bestial fashion at this camp. While the killing in Sobibor, Treblinka, or Auschwitz was carried out on an industrial basis, in Jasenovac the killing was sheer brutality including Ustasha guards competed in killing contests. The Croat Ustashas appeared to enjoy the burdensome labor of manual killing; they took pride in saving bullets. They used knives, hammers, axes. Occasionally they used saws. People were killed upon arrival, while a small number of skilled professionals were kept alive to work at the camp. That gave rise to the absurd charge that the Jews were in charge at Jasenovac. On April 22, 1945, 600 able-bodied inmates, armed with sticks and hammers, took the desperate decision to organize a mass escape, to face a very likely death today, as opposed to a certain death tomorrow. Most died under machine gun fire, but 80 emerged from Jasenovac and survived.
FACES OF PURE EVIL Below are 3 of the most notorious SS officers who oversaw the implementation of the Holocaust. From left to right Dr. Josef Mengele who decided who should live and be killed on arrival at Auschwitz-Birkenau and conducted medical research on camp prisoners with a focus on children, Rudolf Hoess who was Commandant of Auschwitz and Josef Kramer who was Commandant of Birkenau.
In the new book 'The Private Life of the SS in Auschwitz' by historian Piotr Setkiewi which will be available in 2013 in which he interviewed the maids of the concentration camp leadership, Janina Szczurek, 32, said; 'He (Rudolf Hoess, Commandant of Auschwitz, center in picture above) tucked his children into bed every night and he kissed his wife each morning. He wrote poems about the "beauty of Auschwitz". He was obsessively kind to animals and his five children. He would have no moral qualms about ordering the gassing of child inmates of his camp, but in his garden he would play hide-and-seek with his five children and recited poetry to them. Such was the dehumanization of the camp prisoners into inferior beings and virtual objects to be experimented on or killed in the minds of those who killed them, versus their own families.

Prior to being at Bergen Belsen, he was in charge of the gas chambers at Auschwitz.
He was also at one time commandant at Natzweiler-Stuthof concentation camp on French territory.
There, Kramer personally carried out the gassings of 80 Jewish men and women.
These victims were part of a group of 87 selected at Auschwitz to become anatomical specimens in a proposed Jewish skeleton collection to be housed at the Anatomy Institute at the Reich University of Strasbourg.
EINSATZGRUPPEN
The Holocaust was not just carried out in concentration camps. In the field, Einsatzgruppen (action groups) between 1941 and 1943 in Poland and the Soviet Union under the command of Reinhard Heydrich, chief of the Nazi Security Service or SD, carried out the murder of massive numbers of Jews.
Heydrich took his orders directly from Himmler, who in turn received his orders from Hitler. The Einsatzgruppen were mobile killing units organized into four battalions (A, B, C, and D), consisting of approximately 3,000 men, generally high-ranking officers of the SS, Gestapo, and police.
Many of these murderers were intellectuals and professionals—lawyers, architects, economists, and other well-educated men. Otto Ohlendorf, who commanded Battalion D, held three degrees, including one in jurisprudence.
Small children and babies were subject to special treatment. Concerned with ricocheting bullets because cartridges could pass through their tiny bodies, the toddlers were frequently tossed in the air, shot while in freefall, and then allowed to land in the pit. At other times, the killers preferred to save their ammunition, smashing the small heads with a rifle or the butt of a gun.
One and a half million Jews—men, women, and children—were murdered by the Einsatzgruppen.

Despite their proficiency, these 3,000 killers could not have accomplished this feat in such a relatively short period of time without assistance. They frequently received enthusiastic help from the German regular army, Hungarian and Romanian soldiers, and local collaborators, particularly Ukrainians, Lithuanians, and Moldavians. In other words, many thousands of perpetrators of different nationalities, ranging from peasants to brilliant jurists, eagerly participated in the shooting of 1.5 million Jews, one by one, with an average daily death rate of 2,500.
The SS and Einsatzgruppen also murdered large numbers of Christians, in particular those who were Slav and eastern European (included Russians) who were considered to be inferior races.
SOME CAPTURED AMERICAN SOLDIERS WERE PUT IN CONCENTRATION CAMPS
Rarely mentioned in narratives of the Holocaust or history books, captured U.S. soldiers, Jewish and Christian, were also victims of the Nazi Holocaust machine. Some were imprisoned in concentration camps, forced to work as slave labor on weapons production and in one famous case subject to what has come to be called the Berga death march.

ALL THAT IS NECESSARY FOR EVIL TO TRIUMPH IS FOR GOOD MEN TO DO NOTHING; HISTORY DOES NOT REPEAT ITSELF, BUT IT RHYMES
The forces that would deny the Holocaust and the millions who died within it, are as guilty as the original perpetrators and will be judged by
G_d on the same basis.
There are unfortunately already some European countries where the Holocaust can no longer be freely taught in schools due to demographic pressure from other groups who want to ignore or deny the Holocaust[1]. Increasingly there is anti Semitism and difficulty for Jewish students, organizations, speakers and courses on many major U.S. college campuses, not just those in Europe.[2]
A recent study published in 2011 indicated that 40% of US Jewish college students surveyed have experienced anti Semitism on campus.[2a]
Many books currently used in US schools and colleges are a major source of biased anti-Israeli teaching. In the 1990s study "Rewriting History in Textbooks", it was reported that eighteen of the most widely used history textbooks in American high schools were found to be "full of factual errors, oversimplification, omission, and distortion, consistently to the detriment of Jews and Israel”. This inevitably leads to the conclusion that the authors are prejudiced.…. high schools are, as far as anti-Israeli teaching is concerned, even worse than universities”. [1c]
Often, those individuals and forces who are anti Semitic hide behind the guise of just being anti Israel and claim that they are anti Zionist and not anti Semitic.
But, as Dr.Martin Luther King said: “When people criticize Zionists, they mean Jews. You are talking anti-Semitism".[3]
"Plain and Simple: Anti-Zionism Is Anti-Semitism" [4a]. There is no daylight between the anti-Zionist and the anti-Semite. A report in the August 2006 issue of the Journal of Conflict Resolution by the Yale School of Management in collaboration with its Institute for Social and Policy Studies, concludes that the statistical link between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism can no longer be denied. [4b]
Jewish philosopher and theologian Emil Fackenheim has outlined three stages of anti-Semitism: “You cannot live among us as Jews,” leading to forced conversions; “You cannot live among us,” leading to mass deportations; and “You cannot live,” leading to genocide.
Amnon Rubinstein, patron of the Israeli Shinui party and author of "From Herzl to Rabin: The Changing Image of Zionism", has added a fourth stage: “You cannot live in a state of your own,” which leads to boycott, divestment, sanctions, biased reporting, pro forma support of the Palestinians, and calls for the delegitimation, territorial reduction, and in some cases even the disappearance of Israel as we know it.[4c] This last step is reflected in the statements of many movements, governments, events and news headlines of today concerning Israel.
In "Why The Jews? The Reason for Anti Semitism" Dennis Prager and Joseph Telushkin similarly point out that: The contention that anti-Zionists are not enemies of Jews, despite the advocacy of policies that would lead to the mass murder of Jews, is, to put it as generously as possible, disingenuous. … Given, then, that if anti-Zionism realized its goal, another Jewish holocaust would take place, attempts to draw distinctions between anti-Zionism and antisemitism are simply meant to fool the naïve. [4d]
Today there is a confluence of anti Semitism coming not only from the extreme right, but also the extreme left, nationalist movements, government officials (in particular in western Europe and the Mideast), academia, prominent individuals and certain organized religions, some of it subtle, some of it overt including words and phrases reminiscent of Nazi propaganda against the Jews. One has only to look at or listen to the internet, TV, radio or newspapers as recently as November/December 2011 and even January 1 2012. [5]
The technology that exists today such as computers, cellphones, GPS, the internet, facial recognition software, biometrics, DNA testing and weapons including WMD could make the onset of another Holocaust far more rapid and horrifyingly more effective than that perpetrated by the Nazi's.
 How cavalier is the Holocaust treated today in many quarters?…just 2 examples. A Munich tour company website [Jan 7 2012] has a list of numerous tours, yet placed the Dachau Memorial tour directly beneath 2 tours regarding Hitler and the 3rd Reich, both immediately below the Beer and Brewery Tour…in its own way trivializing the event. They repeat this by listing at the bottom of the webpage a category grouping “Hitler`s Munich Tour -Munich-Dachau-Memorial-concentration camp. Third Reich Tour”. [7]
 In January 2012, a gym business advertised its new location in Dubai with a picture of Auschwitz and the caption “Kiss Your Calories Goodbye”. The ad was posted to the companies Facebook page and rapidly spread via Twitter and the internet. After the Anti Defamation League (ADL) and others protested it, the ad was withdrawn with an apology from the company owner, a 32 year old anglo named European who had posted them. He said he used an image of Auschwitz to advertise weight-loss and exercise classes because "it's like a calorie concentration camp." [8a,b]
There are other instances of advertising programs using references to the Holocaust from more famous businesses based in Canada, Italy and elsewhere, including a new upscale sneaker named Zyklon (which was the gas used by the Germans to kill victims in the concentration camps). The sneaker name was changed after the company was made aware of the issue.
The passage of time, lack of education about and the trivilization of the Holocaust from several quarters all contribute to the lack of awareness and/or sensitivity that leads to such advertisements which for the most part are generated by younger generations. This hi-lites the need to increase education efforts among the next generations as the Holocaust itself increasingly becomes a distant past.
The Anti Defamation Leaque said of the above ad using a picture of Auschwitz “We are increasingly troubled by both the ignorance and mindset of a generation that appears to be so distant from a basic understanding of the Holocaust that it seems acceptable to use this horrific tragedy as a gimmick to bring attention to promoting losing weight,” “What do we have to do to educate and impart to current and future generations the perils of bigotry, racism, discrimination and anti-Semitism?” [8a]
Jews, it is often said, are the canary in the coal mine of civilization. Hence, Jews and all others need to be especially observant and on guard today against the potential of events ever again evolving to such a horror.
When Jews become the objects of savagery and hate, it means the air has been poisoned and an explosion is soon to come. When civilized nations fail to rise up against the Jew-haters in their midst, it is often just a matter of time before the Jew-haters in their midst rise up against them. [9]
This was the essence of the famous quote from Pastor Niemoller during the Nazi period which is in the frame near the top of this page..."Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me."
Unfortunately, little has changed despite the Holocaust and history could very well repeat itself.
No. this is not Berlin or Munich in 1930. It is West Boca Raton, Florida, May 2006.
Jews in the US cannot assume “it cannot happen here ” as they did in Germany in the early 1930’s . One has only to look to what is happening on U.S. College campuses regarding virulent anti Semitism and anti Zionist movements. According to a major survey, 40% of U.S Jewish college students have experienced anti Semitism on campus. The American Nazi Party in 2012 registered its first lobbyist in Washington DC.
Too many have forgotten how strong the pro Nazi and anti Semitic German American Bund was in the US during the 1930’s.
In the 1930’s anti Semitism existed on the extreme right, it also existed in much of the general population. Today, this is compounded as well by anti Semitism from the extreme left and from radical Islamist elements now in the US and Europe. As in the 1930's, it may begin with the often vile words of radical rightwing Skinheads, radical Marxists or radical Islamic supported student groups often copied directly from Nazi anti Semitic propaganda. But, where does it potentially lead?
As in the 1930's, words run the risk of becoming deeds unless as Edmund Burke said in the 1700's is remembered "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing". And as noted by so many through history, Jews tend to be the canaries in the coal mine of civilizations. As Pastor Martin Niemoller observed during the Nazi era, what befalls the Jews, eventually befalls others as well when no one says anything to defend the Jews, thinking it is just about the Jews and they are immune from the same treatment.
The US is experiencing a dramatic rise in anti Semitism, especially on college campuses with University of California and California State University campuses notably standing out.
In 2011 the Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism published an important research paper by Stephen H. Norwood, titled “Antisemitism in the Contemporary American University: Parallels With the Nazi Era” (see PDF 2n in references below).
The paper casts valuable light on the current situation in the United States. Norwood reveals that in the 1930s, leading American universities (including Harvard, Yale, Columbia and the Seven Sisters chain of colleges) helped to legitimatize anti-Semitism by welcoming Nazi leaders to their campuses.
Moreover, American university administrators almost never responded to the vitriolic anti-Semitic statements made on campus by Hitler’s diplomatic or student representatives, nor did they react to American apologists for the Nazi regime.
 That this situation continues in the current period is illustrated by an 80 page November 2005 report by the US Civil Rights Commission entitled Campus Anti Semitism ( click here for PDF). The report found anti Semitism to be relatively common, Jewish students were subjected to verbal and physical abuse for their religion or pro Israel stances, and, Islamic Student Groups often engaged in activities involving duplication of Nazi era propaganda against Jews. An example is the image to the right which is the historical blood libel against Jews.
In July 2012, a report released by the University of California Advisory Council on Campus Climate, Culture, and Inclusion found that “Jewish students are confronting significant and difficult climate issues as a result of activities on campus which focus specifically on Israel, its right to exist and its treatment of Palestinians.” “The anti-Zionism and Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movements and other manifestations of anti-Israel sentiment and activity create significant issues,” the report added.
As noted by Leila Beckwith in “Anti Semitism at University of California” in the January 16 2012 issue of the Journal of Anti Semitism [see PDF 2l in references below], “Anti-Semitic speech and actions have occurred on the University of California (UC) campuses for more than ten years, initiated by registered Muslim and pro-Palestinian student groups and some faculty.” .
In late 2012 the situation grew to the point where the California State Assembly passed a resolution calling on the University of California to stop the anti Semitism and harassment of Jewish students on several of its campuses. The University rejected the resolution calling it free speech.
Kenneth L. Marcus, director of the Sassoon Institute for Study of Anti Semitism Initiative on Antisemitism and Anti-Israelism, in the Journal for the Study of Antisemitism, Volume 2, Issue #1, 2010 (see PDF 2m in references below], noted that there is a persistant hostile environment for Jewish students at the University of California Irvine campus near Los Angeles. At Irvine, from 2001 to the present, the Muslim Student Union (MSU), and sometimes the Society of Arab Students (SAS), have sponsored on a persistent basis virulently anti-Zionist/anti-Semitic events on campus. The speakers used classic anti-Semitic themes, and demonized Israel and Jews with Nazi comparisons.
Some Jewish students were harassed and intimidated. When they asked for help from the UC Irvine administration, it was not given.
An action that exemplifies the attitude of college officials in California is that Manzar Foroohar, a professor connected to the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, was selected to chair a committee aimed at combating anti-Semitism in the California State University (CSU) system!
The situation is so bad in California that an organization named AMCHA was specifically founded to protect Jewish College Students on University of California and California State University campuses due to the rapidly rising anti Semitism, harassment and even physical attacks on Jewish students by Muslim student groups financed from abroad and by the extreme left supporting the PLO and BDS (the boycott and diverstment from) Israel movements.
A 2012 study titled “Anti Semitic, Anti Israel and Boycott Divestment of Israel on US College Campuses” [ref. 2.o. below] stated “A shocking percentage of Jewish students report experiencing anti-Semitism on campus and administrators have shown far less sensitivity to these incidents than persecution of other minorities or women on campus.” “The most prevalent anti-Israel groups today are the Muslim Students Association (MSA) and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). The MSA is affiliated with Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and institutionally, has historically been hostile toward Israel and Jews.” “ The most serious problem on campus is not from student activities, but from faculty.” “Though left-wing politics on campus today is very different than what it was in the 1960s, campuses remain the most visible home of ideologues of the radical left in America. And to the extent these leftists are anti-Israel, universities offer them their highest profile platform.”
The situation is not unique to California universities. There is a hostile environment for Jewish students on the campus of Brooklyn College, of the City University of New York. In February 2013, a BDS Boycott and Divestment from Israel event that was sponsored by the college itself, whereas pro Israel events and anti BDS protestors are suppressed.
The picture to the right is from this February 2013 event. Brooklyn College’s chapter of the far left anti-Israel organization Students for Justice in Palestine that exists nationwide on all major college campuses is the organization that brought the event to campus along with the support of the Muslim Students Association.
The Brooklyn College political science department not only co-sponsored the event but endorsed it.
As Per Olmark former Prime Minister of Sweden once said. "In the past the most dangeous anti Semites were those that wanted to make the world free of Jews. Today, the most dangerous anti Semites might be those who want to make the world free of a Jewish State." As with anti Semitism, anti Israel activities start with delegitimization of a people or a country. And, as Martin Luther King once said: "When People Criticize Zionists, They Mean Jews. You Are Talking Anti Semitism"
That anti Semitism is insidious, ingrained and global is illustrated by New Zealand, where the 7,500 Jews that live there represent 0.17% of the population, yet are targeted with anti Semitic acts.

The media hi lited January 16 2013, that there was a free Google App that plays Hitler anti Semitic quotes in Arabic. This free application providing users with vile quotes attributed to Hitler is available via Google Play, the app store for Android products. Among the quotes made available to users are “Jews are like the mosquitos that suck our blood.”, “I discovered that the Jews are behind every immorality or crime against society.”, “I could have killed all the Jews in the world, but I spared some of them so you know why I killed the rest.” And “Oh Germans defend yourselves and never buy anything from the Jews.”
Vile anti Semitic websites exist on the internet, some with misleading names to draw in viewers such as http://www.jewwatch.com/. Despite a massive petition and constant requests, Google refuses to remove this and similar websites from its search engine listings citing “free speech”, while at the same time Google removes websites critical of other groups and another specific religion. With Google's purchase of YouTube in 2006, this practice has now been well documented with YouTube as well, where in response to protests by pro Arab viewers pro Israeli sites are far more often taken down and it takes considerably more pressure and often public media exposure pressure to get YouTube to take down anti Israel and anti Semitic Jihad YouTube videos. FaceBook as well has come under criticism for censoring and even taking down pages that expose anti Semitism with the last such situation reported as recent as January 22 2013.
FaceBook for some reason removes pro Israel pages and information or information pointing out Arab anti Semitism, but leaves up pages from even the terror organization Fatah that explicitly promote terror against Jews and Israeli's. This is illustrated by an article published April 11 2013 by Palestinian Media Watch “Facebook Removes Palestinian Media Watch Expose Of Young Girl Calling Jews 'Descendants Of Pigs'” on Arab TV children’s program ( click here for article). The video posted by Palestinian Media Watch to hi lite the ongoing and multi generation Arab promotion of anti Semitism in children was removed by Google (which owns YouTube), which leaves anti Israel, anti Semitic and anti Israel videos up when they are posted by Arab and anti Israel right and left organizations. The video was restored after pressure to do so. The video can be viewed below. The words of special note start at about 1 minute but the entire video should be watched. What a shameful education of young children to hate. (Click on arrow in middle of video frame below to start video) Greece's neo-nazi Golden Dawn nationalist party adopted a modification of the Swastika as their symbol and flag. The far right party has forged links with British neo-nazi’s and has begun opening offices in Germany, Australia, Canada and the US. Successive polls that show golden dawn entrenching its position as Greece's third and fastest growing political force with 18 Members of Parliament elected 2012 to the Greek Parliament and capturing 11.5% support in a recent survey.

In Italy, Beppe Grillo, founder and charismatic leader of the 5 Star Movement which has received more than 25 % of the total votes in 2013, has a history of anti Semitic rants and how he finds Israel “frightening”. As reported in the media, his statements have yet to create much of a concern in Italy where anti-Jewish and other racial slurs can find a surprisingly high level of tolerance.

A recent survey in late 2012 indicated that the Greek neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party polled third, at 14 percent — a showing comparable to that of Hitler’s National Socialist German Workers’ Party in 1930, three years before rising to power and setting the world on course for WWII.
Nikolaos Michaloliakos, The Golden Dawn Greek Neo Nazi Party founder in May 2012 told an interviewer that six million did not die in the Nazi Holocaust.
He called the figure an exaggeration. “There were no ovens. This is a lie…there were no gas chambers, either” - Nikolaos.
Despite the Golden Dawn words, posters, publications and flag shown to the right, the President of the European Commission refuses to define Golden Dawn as a ‘neo-Nazi’ party which speaks volumes about the European commission and EU attitudes towards anti Semitism.
The Jewish population in Greece is only 5,000 out of a total population of 11 million, which says volumes about the historically deep rooted and inculcated pan European psyche of anti Semitism.
Greece of course is far from the exception as evidenced by the rising if not raging anti Semitism often hiding behind Anti Israel rhetoric from both the right and left in other EU countries. Examples that standout are Hungary, France, Britain, Italy, Belgium, Norway, Finland and Sweden.
ANTI SEMITISM IN THE ARAB MIDDLE EAST
The anti Israel and anti Semitic attitudes of the Arab world have deep roots which existed long before the State of Israel came into existance.
As an example, in 1941, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini fled to Germany and met with Adolf Hitler, Heinrich Himmler, Joachim Von Ribbentrop and other Nazi leaders. One of many infamous pictures of the Grand Mufti meeting with Hitler is to the right. He wanted to persuade them to extend the Nazis’ anti-Jewish program to the Arab world. In November 1941, the Mufti met with Hitler, who told him the Jews were his foremost enemy. (13)
In 1945, Yugoslavia sought to indict the Mufti as a war criminal for his role in recruiting 20,000 Muslim volunteers for the SS, who participated in the killing of Jews in Croatia and Hungary. He escaped from French detention in 1946, however, and continued his fight against the Jews from Cairo and later Beirut. He died in 1974.
When the State of Israel was born in 1948, the surrounding Arab nations immediately attacked it with their combined armies, which had been trained by the British as a result to and followup to World War II. Moving to the present, given the omnipresence of anti Semitism coupled with a desire to destroy the State of Israel in the Arab world as evidenced by their many wars against Israel, terrorism against Israeli civilians and that is visible in their TV and radio broadcasts as well as newspapers, little needs to be said here about it.
It is summed up by Iran's Ahmadinajad calling for the annilation of Israel, Palestinian children being shown from kindergarten on up with guns and being indoctrinated to hate and kill Jews (as well as Christians) and to become martyrs for the cause of liberating Israel from the Jews from a very young age ( click here to see 2 TV videos).
Also see the pictures to the right of Palestinian kindergarten event with children in battle fatigues with toy assault rifles, and, of older children with real AK-47's shepherded by adults in a parade. What parent in the western world would train their kindergarten and older children to kill and to die as martyrs?
Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh announced January 24 2013 that Hamas is is establishing a military academy for Gaza schoolchildren. The inaugural academy in Gaza Strip will prepare children as young as 12 years old for "liberating Palestine," establish Palestinian state "from the river to the sea".
More than 10,000 kids attended a military parade in December 2012 to celebrate the founding of Hamas, dressed in military fatigues and holding toy or real guns depending on age. (see picture to right from parade).
There is an open display of anti Semitism for Arabic versus English speaking audiences on TV and at demonstrations or parades by leading figures in the Arab world.
One recent example being statements by Egypt's new President Morsi of the Muslim Brotherwood who in two 2010 TV videos stated that Arabs should "nurse their children on the hatred of Jews”, and, in another Al Quds TV video referred to Jews as "the Descendants of Apes and Pigs".
Another example (above) are the anti Semitic words of this young child on Palestinian TV which speak for themselves. Inculcating hate at this young age can only lead to more conflict, not peace.......and hatred such as anti Semitism always begins with the innocent children....and is perpetuated by adults they trust teaching it to the children who then lose without choice their innocence. eligious hate speech for children on PA TV.

A PERSONAL ANECDOTE FROM THE WEBMASTER/PAGE EDITOR
One of my customers in the late 1970’s was a Director at a company in the Karlsruhe area near Frankfurt Germany. He knew I was Jewish based on previous discussions. On my frequent trips there, he and another manager would sometimes take me out to a local beer garden and there was much camaraderie. One day after "several rounds of beer" he told me as a young man he had been in the Nazi SS and had been an SS Panzer tank commander. As a former tank commander, he then enthusiastically talked about what great tank fighters the Israeli’s had been in the 1973 war. I asked him how he could reconcile praising the Israeli’s and spending so much time working and toasting in a beer garden with me, a Jew, given he had been in the Nazi SS. His simple, short and cold answer to it all has stayed with me ever since then, it is the story of history, and, is also a warning that all could just as easily tip to the other side of that thin razor's edge civilization exists on...what he told me without any emotion was …
“that was then, this is now” ...as if nothing had happened....
and then he toasted me again with his beer stein and returned to talking about work.

World Memory Project People who want to find out more about the fate of family members who became victims of the Nazi Holocaust now have a new resource online. The World Memory Project, jointly set up by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and the website ‘Ancestry.com’, allows people to sift online through documents that previously required a lengthy manual search. The US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC has more than 170 million documents about victims of Nazi persecution, including concentration camp records and transport lists, records created by Jewish communities and US government documents about people displaced by the war who later immigrated to the United States. Once people locate information online about family members, they can request copies of the full documents from the museum. The service is free and will remain so. "This project is about restoring the identities of the victims, the people who the Nazis tried to erase. They – the Nazis - gave them numbers, and we are giving them back their names, and the public can help us do this."

Nazi Germany and the Jews The Nazi onslaught against the Jews shattered an entire universe, leaving random fragments. Good historians like Saul Friedländer do their best to collect the fragments and construct a coherent picture despite missing pieces. Ordinary Men In "Ordinary Men," Christopher R. Browning tells the story of the German Reserve Police Battalion 101 and in the process addresses fundamental questions about the motivations of the Holocaust's perpetrators. How did "middle-aged family men of working- and lower-middle-class background from the city of Hamburg" become calloused murderers who killed 38,000 Jews and deported 45,000 more to Nazi death camps? Anti-Semitism certainly was a central cause, Browning says: others included the urge for conformity, the desire for advancement and the fear of appearing weak. One may argue with some of Browning's conclusions, in part because he relies on postwar statements by the criminals themselves, but this book will make any reader stop to ponder the ordinary man's capacity for evil.
The Jews of Warsaw, 1939-1943 An iconic photograph from the Holocaust shows a young boy, with his hands in the air, surrounded by Jewish survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising as a German soldier trains his gun on them. Yisrael Gutman's comprehensive "The Jews of Warsaw, 1939-1943" describes the years leading up to that moment. Beginning in 1940, the Nazis concentrated Jews from the area around Warsaw in the city's Jewish quarter, which became a sort of holding pen -- where thousands would die of starvation and disease -- before they were transported to the Treblinka death camp. Between July and September 1942, more than a quarter-million Jews were shipped from Warsaw to Treblinka. In 1943, an armed revolt by the remaining 55,000 or so remaining Jews held off the Nazis for nearly a month before finally succumbing. And Who Will Kill You: The chronicle of the life and sufferings of priests in the concentration camps This book, compiled in 1944, is a collection of the stories told by Catholic priests who suffered alongside the Jews in the concentration camps throughout Europe during World War II. This remarkable book was compiled by a Roman Catholic Czech priest who was imprisoned for many years in Dachau concentration camp. It was first published in Czech in 1946. The English translation was published in 1994. The book is divided into two parts. The first part is 285 pages long. It is composed of over fifty accounts written by survivors about different aspects of the life of the approximately 2,670 Catholic priests (from 24 countries) who passed through what was the largest community, and the largest cemetery, of Catholic priests in the world. The second part, almost 300 pages long, is a list of the priests with basic facts about their imprisonment. Many priests who were in Nazi concentration camps (Dachau, Buchenwald, Mauthausen, Gusen, Sachsenhausen, Auschwitz, Orangienburg, Bergen-Belsen, etc.) have written their memoirs, but almost none are available English. Nazi Persecution of the Disabled: Murder of “The Unfit, United States Holocaust Museum
On July 14, 1933, the German government instituted the “Law for the Prevention of Progeny with Hereditary Diseases.” This law called for the sterilization of all persons who suffered from diseases considered hereditary, including mental illness, learning disabilities, physical deformity, epilepsy, blindness, deafness, and severe alcoholism. With the law’s passage the Third Reich also stepped up its propaganda against the disabled, regularly labeling them “life unworthy of life” or “useless eaters” and highlighting their burden upon society. The term “euthanasia” (literally, “good death”) usually refers to the inducement of a painless death for a chronically or terminally ill individual. In September 1935, Nazi Germany passed laws that deprived German Jews of their citizenship. Without citizenship, Jews were legally defenseless. Many lost their jobs and property. Hitler also targeted with violence and persecution countless thousands of gypsies, Catholics, homosexuals, and even the physically and mentally impaired. With so many Germans fleeing their homeland, the Roosevelt State Department temporarily eased immigration quotas. In 1936, the US State Department approved visas for about 7,000 German refugees. By 1938, that number had increased to more than 20,000. But an opinion poll revealed that 82 percent of Americans still opposed admitting large numbers of Jewish refugees into the United States. One must also remember that that much anti Semitism existed in the US in the 1930’s. More than 100 anti-Semitic organizations blanketed the US with propaganda blaming Jews for all America's ills. Businesses discriminated against Jews, refusing them jobs. Signs at private beaches bore the words "No Jews or Dogs allowed" and certain hotels and housing developments proudly proclaimed themselves "Restricted." Despite pleas by American human-rights organizations, the U.S. State Department refused to increase the German quota any further. Less than a year after the United States entered the war, the Roosevelt administration confirmed that the Germans had embarked upon the systematic annihilation of Europe's Jews, and had already murdered some two million of them. In December 1942, the Allied governments released a joint statement acknowledging that the Germans were "carrying into effect Hitler's oft-repeated intention to exterminate the Jewish people of Europe." On November 25, 1942, more than three years after Hitler ignited World War II, The New York Times carried the first authenticated report that the Nazis had established a policy to exterminate the Jews. At last, on January 16, 1944, President Franklin Roosevelt officially reversed the government's policy of obstruction. He signed Executive Order 9417, creating the War Refugee Board, which was instructed to "take all measures to rescue victims of enemy oppression in imminent danger of death."

The archive contains Nazi records on the arrest, transportation, incarceration, forced labour and deaths of millions of people from the year the Nazis built their first concentration camp in 1933 to the end of the war in May 1945. It also has a vast collection of post-war records from displaced persons camps. The name index refers to 17.5 million victims. Seized by the Allies after the war, the files were closed under a 1955 agreement to protect the privacy of survivors and the reputation of the dead who may have undergone humiliating medical experiments or been falsely accused of crimes. Editors note: The question has been raised by many …who was really being protected by the International Red Cross and national signatories to the Agreement sealing these files for 50 years and only agreeing to start releasing them in 2007…the victims and their families desperate for information about loved ones missing in the Holocaust period…or the perpetrators whose identities were part of the same files and who like the victims… have now passed away. For those who could not get information about their loved ones...the Holocaust in effect continued long after the war ended.

In Defiance of Hitler: The Secret Mission of Varian Fry On August 4, 1940, an unassuming American journalist named Varian Fry made his way to Marseilles, France, carrying in his pockets the names of approximately two hundred artists and intellectuals – all enemies of the new Nazi regime. As a volunteer for the Emergency Rescue Committee, Fry’s mission was to help these refugees flee to safety, then return home two weeks later. As more and more people came to him for assistance, however, he realized the situation was far worse than anyone in America had suspected – and his role far greater than he had imagined. He remained in France for over a year, refusing to leave until he was forcibly evicted by the Vicy Government and US State Department. At a time when most Americans ignored the atrocities in Europe, Varian Fry engaged in covert operations, putting himself in great danger, to save strangers in a foreign land. He was instrumental in the rescue of over two thousand refugees, including the novelist Heinrich Mann and the artist Marc Chagall. Varian Frye’s story was fully revealed for the first time in this book published in 2008. He passed away in 1967, his efforts largely unknown at the time. H was honored in 1994 by Yad Vashem as a "Righteous Among the Nations”.
