About Sisterhood

The Sisterhood of Temple Shalom is absolutely the heart of our Temple.

We have events planned for every month of the year with a focus on entertaining and educating our membership. Our very social meetings are on the first Monday of every month and finish with lunch and games. Our board meetings are scheduled for the third Monday of the month and are always open to guests.

Sisterhood volunteers comprise our Mitzvah Committee which is available to help our Temple members when a memorial reception is needed. We have four Oneg teams who take turns preparing the dessert buffet that follows our Friday night services.

If we had a motto, it would be, “We are there for each other, always, in all ways!”

We are the friendliest group in town! We will welcome you with open arms, and treat you like family. You will never be alone with our Sisterhood in your life.

In addition to our monthly socials we have wonderful fundraising events to benefit the Temple.

Annually we organize and run a Basket Fest, Vendors’ Fair, three huge Mah-jongg Tournaments, enjoy a monthly Book Club, run bus trips to Tampa for traveling Broadway productions, hold a beautiful Women’s Seder, an elegant Fashion Show Luncheon, a funtastic All Girls Cruise to the Bahamas, and the list goes on and on!

We also support other activities at the Temple such as the Mah Jongg tournaments open to the public and held 3 times a year.  Part of the proceeds of these tournaments goes to support a local hospice.  As many as 40 Sisterhood members actively work on and at the tournaments to assure their success.

Join us! Annual membership is only $25.00.

About Brotherhood

Founded with only 6-8 members in 2001, the Brotherhood now boasts close to 120 members. This active club holds its general meetings the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm at the Temple, which along with fun and games, presents relevant topics for discussion and learning, including: CPR - Defibrillator Value, WWII Concentration Camp Observer one week after it was liberated, Tax program by an AARP representative, Medicare "D" program, and Scams, presented by Lt. Wolfe of the Sumter County Sheriff's Department.

In addition, special guest speakers have addressed timely topics at Brotherhood meetings: Pete Wahl, Villages Manager, Tony Simpson, Executive Golf Manager, and Hospice Speaker.

The Brotherhood's fund raising activities have contributed generously toward operating and capital expenses of the Temple. In cooperation with the Sisterhood, the Brotherhood donated the Star of David for the new chapel at Hospice of the Villages and Hospice of the Villages receives a percentage of all funds raised by the Brotherhood. We also jointly purchased an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) in 2005. Should someone have a heart attack or a stroke, the AED, used properly, may help save a life. Brotherhood is available to assist the Temple and all of its components in all of their endeavors.

The Brotherhood is striving to have more activities that are of interest to our members. Your suggestions are always welcome.
